WHAT IS THE ALUMNI & STUDENT ADVISORY BOARD (ASAB)?
The Alumni & Student Advisory Board serves as the collective voice of Northwest Education Access students and alumni, providing insight and recommendations that help shape programs, services, and organizational initiatives. In doing so, members gain hands-on leadership and nonprofit experience, strengthen professional and communication skills, and build meaningful relationships while making a lasting impact on the NWEdA community.

WHAT IS REQUIRED AND EXPECTED OF ASAB MEMBERS?

ASAB is a leadership opportunity built on trust, collaboration, and shared responsibility. Members represent the voices of NWEdA students and alumni while working alongside staff, board members, and community leaders. Because this role has a meaningful impact, we ask that members fully engage, communicate openly, and honor their board commitments. These expectations help build accountability, professionalism, and teamwork while creating a positive experience for everyone.

• Be committed and dependable. ASAB members play an important role, and others rely on your participation.

• Communicate proactively. If you're unable to attend a meeting or commitment, let us know as early as possible.

• Attend meetings and events. Most meetings require in-person participation while some are virtual.

• Be present and engaged. Come prepared, participate in discussions, and contribute your ideas.

• Collaborate respectfully. Work as part of a team and value different perspectives.

• Follow through on commitments. Complete agreed-upon tasks and support projects from start to finish.

• Represent NWEdA professionally.when interacting with students, staff, board members, and community partners.

ASAB TERM LENGTH

ASAB members serve a one-year term, from October 2026 through September 2027.

ASAB STIPEND

Members who fulfill the quarterly participation requirements receive a $350 stipend per quarter in recognition of their time and contributions.

TIME COMMITMENT & RESPONSIBILITIES

Members commit 15 hours per quarter, which includes:

• Bi-weekly and monthly ASAB meetings, in-person at our NWEdA office in Tukwila, WA

• Monthly meetings with Executive Director

• Quarterly meetings with Student and Alumni Engagement Manager

• Sound Reengagement Collaborative (SRC) meetings every 2 months

• Board of Directors meeting on a rotating basis between ASAB members

• Leadership opportunities and committee work

• Participate in the interview process for staff and Board of Directors candidates

• Participate in NWEdA events

• Special projects and organizational initiatives

• Track participation and engagement

ASAB MEMBER SELECTION PROCESS & TIMELINE

• July 27 - August 28: Interest Form Open - Complete the online ASAB Interest Form and submit two references.

• August 28: Interest Form Deadline - All Interest Forms must be submitted by the end of the day.

• September 1 – 11: Interest Form Review & Reference Checks - Our team will review all Interest Form responses. Candidates who move forward in the selection process will have their references contacted.

• September 14: Interview Invitations Sent: Candidates who successfully move forward after the Interest Form review and reference checks will be invited to schedule an interview.

• September 17 – 29: Interviews - Our team will conduct interviews with selected candidates.

• September 30: Selection Notifications - All candidates will receive an email with their application decision, regardless of the outcome.

IMPORTANT DATES FOR SELECTED ASAB MEMBERS

• October 14–15 | 10:00 AM–2:00 PM: Required ASAB Orientation - Selected members will attend a required two-day, in-person orientation to prepare for their year on the Alumni & Student Advisory Board.

• October 29 | 6:30 PM–9:30 PM: Fall Kickoff - ASAB's first official event! Members will help host Northwest Education Access's Fall Kickoff at the Centilia Cultural Center.

• November 11 | 6:00 PM–7:30 PM: ASAB Group Meeting (In Person) - Northwest Education Access Office located at 16040 Christensen Rd, Tukwila, WA

• November 25 | 6:00 PM–7:30 PM: ASAB Group Meeting (In Person) - Northwest Education Access Office located at 16040 Christensen Rd, Tukwila, WA

• December 9 | 6:00 PM–7:30 PM: ASAB Group Meeting (In Person) - Northwest Education Access Office located at 16040 Christensen Rd, Tukwila, WA

WHAT IS REQUIRED TO BE ELIGIBLE & APPLY?

• Must be a current student or alumni of NWEdA.

• Must be 18 years or older.

• Must provide 2 references. (Note: Please notify your references that Northwest Education Access may contact them)

  • One reference from your NWEdA Education Advocate

  • One personal or professional reference of your choice. Please notify your references that Northwest Education Access may contact them.

• No prior leadership experience is required.We'll help you grow your skills!
